Congregation Mission Offerings Congregation Mission Offerings (CMO) are the main source for funding WELS’ worldwide gospel ministry. Congregational Planned Giving Program Learn how to promote planned giving opportunities to your members. About WELS Ministry of Christian Giving encourages members to excel in the grace of giving and assists them in making planned gifts to support the gospel ministry of their congregations, synod, and WELS agencies. WELS Ministry of Christian Giving works on behalf of the Conference of Presidents to remind every WELS member that Christ’s love is our calling to excel in the grace of giving” (2 Corinthians 8:7). We carry out this mission through two broad but distinct efforts. First, we assist with the gathering of Congregation Mission Offerings (CMO). We also work to encourage direct gifts to WELS, or individual mission offerings, above and beyond congregational offerings. We do this through mailed appeals, coordination of special offerings, and by assigning Christian giving counselors to local churches to assist members with their charitable goals. Resources Christian Giving Now and for the Future This presentation, originally given at the 2023 WELS National Conference on Lutheran Leadership, reviews today’s giving opportunities and methods in the light of Christ’s unchanging Scriptures. Congregational Will Planning Presentation A presentation about how to write or revise a will to reflect Christian values while providing for family and the Lord’s work. IRA Charitable Distributions Those 70.5 and older can give from their IRAs while avoiding federal and potentially state income tax. Stewardship Programs The latest programs and resources to help congregations encourage members towards biblical stewardship.
